The Knights of Round Table

Title page (N.C. Wyeth) for The Boy's King Arthur: Sir Thomas Malory's History of King Arthur and His Knights of the Round TableOnce upon a time, there was a kingdom grand ruled by a man of vast power. This king, as the legends say, was greatly experienced in the combat, protecting the people he cared about, with help of his knights.

His very valuable advisor, a wizard going by name Merlin, has advised Arthur building a room where he and his knight friends would be able to meet.

Arthur, as a man who believed in equality, had decided that the table in the room is going to be round so all the knights would be equal to the king.

He had sent a word to all the carpenters in his kingdom that those who will solve his riddle will be rewarded by the king, and will have the honor of being the ones who manufacture the important round table.

He wanted a table constructed of wood with metal plate in the middle as shown on image1. They would only know the size a, size b and the angle X. If they wanted to get a job, they would need to calculate the radius of both the circles.

Can they do it? If so, how?

This is one of the problems my friend came up with, only that I edited it a bit and left out some unimportant information that were no help.

Anyways, I will have you guys trying to solve it for a week or few, see what you’ll come up with and then I will publish my solution with a few of yours.

Send your solutions to the comments or to my email address : bashynx@gmail.com.
